Zomtober 2015 (Week 3)

Another week, another Zombie kid! And some more yellow  - I am using the opportunity to practice painting yellow in anticipation of 3 minis I want to get painted soon-ish that all feature yellow quite prominently.

Work has been very busy for me this week, plus the Pulp City: Cold War Kickstarter launch took place, so time for painting has been limited when I have not been feeling tired. Therefore getting one Zombie painted was a nice small goal. All that aside, I now have some time off work so I hope to get a few more minis painted in the next 7 days!

In addition to this Zombie kid, I also finished Papa Zombie (click for link) in the past few days for my own Pulp City collection as a fitting ancillary miniature for Zomtober. That means I have finished two out of the planned three minis I planned to paint that were not regular Zombies or Tooth & Sword Shambling Zombies. That took me to seven minis for the month, already matching what I managed in 2014, and leaves me every chance of finishing ten or even eleven in total if momentum is sustained.

I need to prep another Zombie kid to ensure I can stick to the theme I stumbled onto for my own output this year, but I am fairly confident of meeting my weekly target for the final entry next week.

  1. What a characterful miniature, you did a magnificent job painting her.
Which colours did you use for the skin?

    1. Thanks Wouter. :)

My tried and true recipe is this:
      1. Base of Vallejo MC Green-grey
      2. Paint a mix of VMC green-grey and V<C Leather Brown into areas needing shading
      3. Tidy up with VMC Green-grey
      4. 1st highlight 2:1 Green-grey and Basic Skintone
      5. 2nd highlight 1:1 same colours
If I do a 3rd highlight, it is at 1:2 the same two colours

  2. Terrific stuff PulpCitizen, though perhaps a little young for a Green Bay Packer fan ;-) I really like both the yellow and the green, and nice work on the hair too. Lovely little lass.

I promise a different theme next year!

(It was supposed to have been priests/religious types of different denominations this year...)

I think that any colour scheme works if it consistent: green, grey, off-yellow, etc. :)

  7. Brilliant Work, PC! Another creepy kid - think I need some of these to paint up as ghosts. Could you tell me who makes these? Thanks.

    1. Thanks Jez. :)

I could really see them working well as ghosts and think that is a great idea. This and last week's mini are from Studio Miniatures' "Tiny Terrors" pack. :)

  11. Ah, yes, that's a delightful set. There aren't enough zombie kids out there, I say. Kudos, Mr. Citizen. Papa looks nice, too.
