Batman (Animated Series)

There are a lot of versions of Batman of the BMG range, and this became my favourite as soon as I saw it. That fact, combined with my need to get some painting momentum and motivation, made this the ideal choice to tackle as my first mini of the year.

For the most part the painting was really straightforward, and unusually and pleasantly for a Knight Models mini, it came in only two parts. In all it was done over a couple of sessions in a single weekend, which is quick for me!

I am not planning a Batman crew any time soon unless there are a few more minis in the Animated style to accompany him (there is only Catwoman so far). That said, I suspect any additions in the same style would be nice and simple to paint, so they would jump up the painting queue simply for ease. However, so far Knight Models seems to just dabble in the TV related stuff in terms of specific ranges: 2 Animated minis; Arrow from the Arrow/Flash/Legends of Tomorrow milieu; Penguin from Gotham; Adam West Batman from Batman '66. Each seems to be crying out for more minis from the same source material.

I would love to see the a selection of characters from Animated series - any of: Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, Robin (Tim Drake), Bullock, Commissioner Gordon, Renee Montoya and Gotham Cops as a mix of BtAS and the New Batman Adventures characters.

Still, I am off the mark on the painting front in2016, and that is the main thing. I  need to get back to painting my Joker crew and would like to get that done by the end of February.

BMG Painting Summary
BMG characters owned: 186 (added: Spice crew box for Two-Face; Killing Joke Joker; Gatling Brute for Joker/Harley; Militia Medic and Militia 4; Katana; Batman and Catwoman (BtAS); Militia Gatling Brute; and Black Manta)
Percentage of owned characters painted: 17.2% (32 models)

  2. It surprises me a bit they added the characters from the Animated series to the range as their style is so different. It would be a different story if you could collectie a whole group of these of course.
You did a great job on this Batman, catching the Animated series style and feel really well.

    1. Thanks Wouter. :)

I agree that the minis really needs a few others in the same kind of aesthetic. :)

    1. Thanks Michael. :)

The peaks of folds at the back of the cape were especially pleasing - sometimes things work well, other times not so much. This time I was happy. :)

  4. That's fabulous; such a clean and elegantly simply model is difficult to paint - very unforgiving of sloppy work. Yours is magnificent. The blending is top notch.

    1. Thanks Herbert West. :)

I struggled a bit with the arms, but overall I am happy with the result. :)

  5. If they'd released this first, I'd have been all over it, but the aesthetic difference is just too jarring for me. However, yours looks excellent as ever

    1. Hi Kieron. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Having painted Bats, I really, really hope KM do enough models for a full crew in the same style. I cannot see me mixing them with non-Animated style minis.

  6. Very nice work, PC! Whilst I've not yet been tempted by Knight Models figures yet, this particular figure is eroding that resolve - I suppose it also helps that there's limited figures within this subset, so hmm...
I seem to remember there was a thread on TMP where someone had repainted the animated Batmobile from Eaglemoss, for use with BMG, so even if Bats has no one yet to fight, at least you can get him some wheels!

I may need to see if I can track down a BtAS Batmobile! :)

  8. For such a monotone character you certainly have created a lot of depth in him. That is a mark of a very good painter. :)

    1. Thanks very much. It was unusual trying to pick out highlight edges on a model specifically sculpted to not really have many edges. :)
