Brandon O'Malley (Court of Owls)

Brandon O'Malley is my sixth Court of Owls mini (my fifth Talon), and finishing him gets me to a playable 350 Reputation crew for the Court, which is ideal as I am planning to take them to a 350 Reputation tournament in March.

I started this mini a week ago, along with the James and Nathaniel O'Malley minis, in order to put the main blocks of colour down on all three, before just focusing on finishing this one - the other two will get done over the next few weeks I hope. I have to admit, I don't have much stomach for batch painting these days, so the decision was the right one as it got this done quicker than might have been the case had I persevered with all three together. That said, looking at the photograph of the back of the mini, I am not sure if I have misjudged the right hand edge of the 'gold bars' on its back; if that is the case it will be a quick fix.

In the comics, the Brandon is the middle generation of three O'Malleys who have served the Court of Owls, and we encounter them as the hunt Calvin Rose, the most recent Talon.

In the BMG Court crew, Brandon O'Malley is probably the second or third hardest-hitting character they have currently, roughly in line with William Cobb depending on the situation, but both behind Strix. I shall soon get a better sense of things as the Court are getting a run out against Brummie's Penguin crew on Tuesday!

BMG Painting Summary
BMG characters owned: 197 (added: new Court of Owls crew box; Catman; Cyborg; Hawkgirl; BtAS Harley; Riddler Mech; and Penguin Thugs III)
Percentage of owned characters painted: 18.8% (37 models)

  1. Utterly superb PulpCitizen. This blog will undoubtedly be the definitive source of painting tips and inspiration when I finally set about painting my "BMG" models.

    1. Thanks for those very kind words Blaxkleric, but given my snail's pace output I think definitive would be a stretch. :)

    3. I know! :)

They release roughly 10 characters a month, and at that rate I need to do 2 or so each month just to stay in the 18-20% painted mark! Never ending project #3! :P

  3. Looking good. I hate that feeling of only spotting something when you've blogged it. Happens to me all the time. :)

    1. Thanks Kieron. :)

I know what you mean; thankfully I have now corrected the problem, so all is good - I really could not see it until blown up at several times the size on my monitor. :)

  5. Nice work, PC! Of course, we do really need a group shot of your crew now - I know that your full compliment of 'owls' are not yet done - but your 350 rep crew should make an impressive group.

    1. Hi Jez. Thanks. :)

Group shot coming up in a few days in a post about what I think are the strengths and weaknesses of the crew. :)

  6. Again ... spot on. Your work with dark colours is amazing as you make them seem vibrant when they have no right to be.
