Dr. Omega (SHOC Force)

Dr. Omega is the second of my very recently finished batch of minis. Like the rest of SHOC Force, the sculpt is from Nexus Miniatures; for my purposes he is an Unhuman Super, the most powerful member of SHOC Force and its leader.

Dr. Omega is a powerful psychic, with telepathic and telekinetic powers. Most heroic Super-Teams view Omega and SHOC Force with suspicion, which has resulted in many skirmishes as Omega pursues his Unhuman Manifesto.

To add a regal element to Dr. Omega I thought the purple cape and gold trim would be good options. it helps differentiate the model from the rest of the Team and hopefully elevates him a little in 'rank'. The rest of his costume colours are aligned to the standard SHOC Force template.

  1. He almost looks like military guy.
My first impression that he was An officer from the now OOP Praetorian Guard with a headswap.
I'm not a fan of the mini, but I do like how you matched the uniform colours with the one from your previous post. Also, the way you painted his mantle gives it some extra dept. Making it look less flat.

    1. Thanks Wouter. :)

Certainly not he greatest of contemporary sculpts, but it was part of a set that had a sense of uniformity that I wanted so fit the bill for my needs. :)

  2. I'm currently painting my second version of this guy with my daughter. It's a decent sculpt that let down by the helmeted head it's provided with being too small. The head swap was a good idea.

    Nicely done!

    1. Cheers Kieron. :)

To be honest, I think this head may be a little big, but didn't look at the size of the helmeted head really.

  3. Very nice. The color scheme reminds me a lot of Megatron Bison. :0).

    1. Thanks Tom. :)

      M. Bison may have been a subconscious influence - good spot. :)

  4. You got the pupils done and that in itself deserves kudos! :) Just to add, you could if you wanted, paint the whites on top of an earlier coat of say dark brown and leaving the darker hue to show at the fringes. This can give added depth not unlike someone who puts on eyeliners. :)

Re: the whites, I have been tackling another mini with a lot of 'white' recently, and tried a darker than usual base, but to my eye I haven't been happy with it, as it goes too dark even though I chose a mid colour (grey).
